Everything happens for a reason…

Does everything happen for a reason. What do you think…does it?

In general, I believe that things happen for a reason…although the reason may remain obscure for some period of time after the happening.

As a child when I would almost always ask why bad things happened, my grandmother would tell me God has a plan for us.  At the time that was enough of an answer for me. It became I guess  an issue of faith for me.

You see my faith is very simple… although it was not always that way. Of course, I went through a time in my life when I questioned all things spiritual but I always came back to my faith especially in times of tribulation.

I had a very catholic education from 5th grade through college. It was a thought provoking education not the “patent leather shoes stuff”. Many of my questions were answered by reading theologians like Thomas Merton and studying the new and old testaments.

It has been my faith that has sustained me throughout my life. During my early years my faith was simplistic…it then became more complex and then simple again.

I became comfortable with unanswered questions and accepted faith as a gift which was nourished by my mother, my grandmother and those who educated me.

I still question but not so much as there are no answers to many questions of faith.

I believe there is a kind of divine plan and everyday things happen for a reason which may be what my mother would always say was “the mystery of life”.
